Our LED GPS beacons offer 13 years of connection from their activation on the assembly line in our factory.
Let us remember that the period required in the regulations is 12 years of service paid by the manufacturer. Although we added an extra year to our LED GPS beacon to provide sufficient margin to allow its marketing and prevent the user from losing part of the legal period of time.

In addition, Telefónica will allow the service time of the beacon to be extended, being able to contract extra periods of time, extending the useful life of its LED GPS beacon. In this way, we avoid generating waste in the environment.

The obligation to use connected beacons will not come into force until January 2026, so if users of the GPS LED beacon acquire it before that date they would lose some years of mandatory service stipulated by the regulations.
To avoid this situation, LED GPS beacons will offer an extended lead time for all beacons manufactured before 2026.

The beacon connects with the DGT 3.0 platform to anonymously communicate the position of the vehicle, in accordance with RD1030/2022, which modifies the previous RD159/2021.

DGT 3.0 is the DGT’s connected vehicle platform that facilitates the interconnection of all the actors that are part of the mobility ecosystem to offer real-time traffic information to road users at all times, thus enabling greater mobility. safe and intelligent.
The specific objective that the DGT seeks with the connected beacons is to warn road users through the digital ecosystem that is beginning to be created. The beacons will notify the DGT that an emergency stop is being carried out and this information will be processed and communicated to the rest of the users through mobility applications, GPS navigators, road warning panels, security forces, assistance services or the future sign V27.

The LED GPS beacons are designed and manufactured in Spain, helping to strengthen the business and labor fabric of our country, thus promoting job creation.

How does led gps work?

Its operation is very simple. You just have to activate the beacon and it will do the rest: it will signal your position to the rest of the vehicles and notify the DGT that you are making an emergency stop.

The V16 signal is the device provided for by the Spanish Highway and Road Safety Code that indicates that the vehicle has been immobilized on the road or that its cargo has fallen on it. Currently, two V16 signals coexist, the danger pre-signaling triangle and the V16 emergency light or beacon, whether connected or not connected.

Until January 2026, emergency pre-signaling triangles or beacons can continue to be used without geolocation, when both will be completely prohibited in our country.

The beacon must be located inside the vehicle in an accessible area so that we do not have to leave the vehicle’s cabin to signal it. But in the event that we must leave it, each occupant of the vehicle must always wear the approved reflective vest and under no circumstances must they remain on the road, having to stay outside its limits.

We must install the beacon in the highest possible part of the vehicle and, in any case, guarantee its maximum visibility. The specifications for its design require that it can be kept stable on a flat surface; However, if due to height it is not possible to access the roof of the vehicle, the V16 device must be equipped with some means, such as a magnet, that allows it to be placed on the driver’s door.

Until 2026 it will not be mandatory, and both triangles and V16 signaling beacons can be used, both connected and unconnected. But you should keep in mind that in the event of a breakdown, the V16 beacons are much safer and their use can save the lives of drivers and passengers.

The light beam will make you visible from 1 km away. Furthermore, if the beacon is equipped with connectivity, the rest of the vehicles will receive information about the accident or breakdown through browsers, mobility applications or on-board computers. For their part, drivers of older vehicles or those without this type of technology will be able to find out about the incident through the Variable Message Panels on our roads (LINCE).

The duration of the contracted service is 12 years (plus an extension of 1 extra year for marketing), the cost of which is already included in the sale price of the Led GPS beacon, so you will not have to pay any type of additional fee.

You should know that we also give away an extra period of time on all beacons manufactured before 2025 so that the user does not lose the 12-year period. All of these beacons have a fixed expiration that expires in January 2038.

It is not mandatory to use triangles as long as you use a beacon instead. You should know that since July 1, 2021, the V16 beacon can replace the classic emergency pre-signaling triangles.

The beacon eliminates the risk of being run over. You should know that every year dozens of people are killed by cars in Spain due to getting out of the vehicle in an emergency, so at Vika we recommend purchasing this device to use it if necessary.

It must be used in any type of vehicle that circulates on Spanish urban and interurban roads. In fact, it will be mandatory to carry it in any vehicle (cars, trucks, caravans, buses, etc.) starting in January 2026.

And without being mandatory, the use of Led GPS will be recommended for motorcycles.

Until 2026, V16 devices can be used without geolocation. But with the idea of ​​reducing accident rates, increasing safety and shortening the response time of emergency and assistance services, the DGT has developed the DGT 3.0 platform. The V16 emergency light will be connected to DGT 3.0, which will allow the position of a vehicle that is making emergency parking to be known at all times.

You just have to keep in mind that the beacon has charged batteries at the time of use, so it is advisable to periodically check its status. Due to the little use that is given to the device, the original supplied battery will maintain its charge for a long time, but it is inevitable that they may lose some charge.

When the 12-year service that includes the Led GPS beacon ends, the device can no longer be used and you must purchase another one.

But to avoid throwing away the device, thanks to Telefónica, in the future we will offer Led GPS users the possibility of extending the service period. This period can be contracted through our website, mobile application or customer service.

As of today, outside of Spain the triangle is still mandatory while the beacon is still a project. In any case, we recommend always finding out what the traffic regulations are in those countries in which we are going to circulate. Thanks to Telefonica’s roaming service, the Led GPS beacon will be ready to be used in the rest of Europe when the system requires it.
